Cuba registers "trend of extreme cruelty" in femicides, warned

The feminist platform Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba (YSTCC) warned of a "serious trend of extreme cruelty" in crimes against women in Cuba, totaling 191 cases for the period 2020-2024.
YSTCC and the magazine Alas Tensas reported that there are 16 cases of femicides so far this year on the island, with the recent murder of Elisbeidi Tamayo Peña, 39 years old.
The Cuban woman was murdered by her ex-partner, who then committed suicide.
There were also two attempted femicides and five cases that require access to police investigation.
In addition, human rights observatories are investigating alerts in Manzanillo, Ciego de Avila, Havana and Artemisa.
In Cuba, gender-based violence and femicides have been a cause for concern in recent years due to an upward trend in recent years.
In 2020, 32 femicides and four cases of vicarious femicides (murders of people close to the victim for gender-related reasons) were registered.
The record of independent NGOs for 2021 is 36 femicides and the rate of femicides per 100,000 Cuban women was 0.63. This means that, on average, a femicide was committed every 10 days.
In 2022, 34 femicides were confirmed and for the period 2023 and March 2024, 89 femicides were registered inside the island and 10 crimes of Cuban women outside the country.
