How to wash tulle

How to wash tulle
Airy tulle not only allows you to create an interesting window design, but also makes the room elegant and cozy. But this is only if the tulle is clean. However, over time, even the highest quality fabric suffers from dust and direct sunlight.

The first rule: before washing, the tulle must be shaken out in order to get rid of dust as much as possible, and only then choose the washing method.

Machine wash

Modern washing machines allow you to wash tulle with high quality without much effort. Before washing, the tulle should be placed in a special bag or in a pillowcase, a detergent for delicate fabrics should be loaded into the container, and if grayed or yellowed tulle needs to be bleached, add a little oxygen-containing bleach. Use the gentle wash and extra rinse modes, and turn off the spin cycle.

Handwash

This method of washing is recommended by the cleaning company LiveCleanToday, which offers one-time cleaning services in Washington state(look more here https://www.livecleantoday.com/services/one-time-cleaning). Handwashing is time-consuming. Despite this, experienced housewives prefer to wash tulle by hand.

First, the tulle is soaked for 2 hours in warm water, to which edible salt (100 grams of salt per 1 liter of water) and a little washing powder are added. As a result of such soaking, you can get rid of the most severe contaminants. After soaking, the tulle should be rinsed in warm water, and then proceed to washing. Wash tulle in warm (not hot) water, to which a detergent for delicate fabrics is added. The tulle should not be rubbed hard, just carefully knead it with your hands. After washing, the fabric should be rinsed several times in water at room temperature. To make the white tulle look fresh, during the last rinse, you can add a little blue to the water.

Whitening and color restoration

If during the washing process it was not possible to get rid of dirt or yellowness, try using more radical methods. Nylon tulle will look like new if you rinse it in a solution of brilliant green: dissolve 10 drops of brilliant green in a glass of water, after filtering, pour the solution into a basin of water, and rinse the tulle in it. In a bowl of hot water, mix 1 tablespoon of ammonia and 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide, and soak the lace tulle in the solution for 20 minutes, and then rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Washed tulle will gain shine if, after washing, soak it for a few minutes in salt water, and then hang it to dry.
