The Councilor for Urban Development and Housing, Vicent Sarrià, has moved to the city of Bilbao to receive the AVS Award for the best performance in Urban Rehabilitation and Revitalization, awarded by the Spanish Association of Public Housing and Land Managers to the Municipal Society Urban Actions of Valencia (AUMSA), of which he is president.
From the Municipal Society of Urban Actions of Valencia, AUMSA, is developing a project consisting of the construction of several student accommodation in the Cabanyal, thus contributing to the rehabilitation of this neighborhood of Valencia.
In December of last year the construction of the first accommodation building, located on Marqués de Guadalest Street, ended with a budget amounting to a total of 552,000 euros. The building has three floors, with a study room, four double rooms and a room adapted for people with disabilities. At present, it is getting ready to facilitate access to students during the start of the university course.
The license for the execution of a second student accommodation on Calle Escalante is currently in process. These actions seek to put an end to the existence of abandoned lots and buildings, contributing to the rehabilitation of the neighborhood and attracting young people to revitalize the Cabanyal.
The Spanish Association of Public Housing and Land Managers, celebrates today the sixth edition of the AVS Awards for Best Practices in Social Housing, Rehabilitation and Management, at the Arriaga Theater in Bilbao.
"The rehabilitation and regeneration of Cabanyal-Canyamelar is taking shape thanks to projects such as this, which, together with the redevelopment of many of the neighborhood's streets, is changing the image and quality of life in the neighborhood," commented Sarrià.
